Research
I'm an impact-centered design researcher passionate about inter- and transdisciplinary scholarship. My work sits at the intersection of psychology, behavioral science, human-computer interaction, and design science. At the heart of my work is the belief that design holds a unique power to untangle, (re)frame, and address complex challenges emerging from the intertwined relationships between people, artifacts, non-human beings, and their social-ecological environments.
My research follows two main lines of inquiry. First, I investigate the (un)intended mediating effects of interactive technologies and experiential or speculative artifacts on human experience, behavior, and well-being. Second, I translate these insights into practical design methods and tools that support the development, implementation, and evaluation of future interventions. My work has published in international journals such as International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, Frontiers in Psychology, Virtual Reality, and Computers & Industrial Engineering, edited books, and proceedings of peer-reviewed conferences such as ICED, IDETC/CIE, IASDR, and the DESIGN conference. I also contribute to science communication by writing articles for broader audiences such as review articles on events like Milan Design Week and Dutch Design Week, and regularly serve as a reviewer for leading design research venues such as IASDR, DRS, and DIS.

Research Projects
This section highlights research projects where I served as the PI or main contributor. Related research outputs can be found in the Publications section.
Develop Methods and Tools to Operationalize a Design-focused Typology of Thirteen Fundamental Needs for Human-centered Design
2022-present
Designed and conducted three studies: a systematic review, a psychometric scale development study, and a design method development study.
Exploring the Role of Metaphors in Design for Sustainable Behavior
2018-2022
Designed and conducted five mixed-method studies in laboratories and fields. Developed a typology of behavioral persuasion resulting from design-mediated interactions and a metaphor-driven design method and applied it in teaching to guide twelve groups of master's students through design projects.
University-Enterprise Joint Project
Trends and Innovation Touchpoints in Augmented Reality-Based Product Development
2020-2021
Served as Senior Design Researcher for the OPPO-Tsinghua DMR Design Consulting Project. Co-led the team alongside the project manager, overseeing the organization of international workshops, conducting in-depth user research, analyzing qualitative data, and contributing to developing the final report and executive presentation.
Testing the Effects of Colored Ambient Lights on Perceived Temperature for Enhancing Energy Efficiency
2017-2018
Designed and conducted preliminary studies using virtual simulation-based tests to examine the effects of visual metaphors as ecological feedback in promoting sustainable energy consumption behaviors. A follow-up study across different cultural groups further explored how culture influences the meaning associated with color.
Analyzing the Risk-Taking Driving Behavior of Young Chinese Drivers in Italy
2016-2017
Designed and conducted simulation-based tests to investigate the risk-taking behaviors of young drivers in different driving situations to understand the emerging issue of their involvement in traffic accidents abroad.
I'm always excited to discuss research (design-related and beyond) and to collaborate on new ideas.
